    Paul Vaughn and Tyier Wing will attend Boys' State, sponsored by American Legion post 414. Darlene Robinson is the new head cook at Friendship Meals. Deaths listed were Ruth Grammer, Monica M. Hawkins, and Forest A. "Bud" Roe.

             April 5

    KMS student Ben Coon is hit in. crosswalk on way to school; injuries seem to be slight. South Central Community Foundation gives out annual awards to organizations and in six other counties. Sheriff Deputy David Hillman hits deer. Leo Ziegler is honored at retirement party from Road and Bridge Department. Deaths listed were Daniel J. Sinnett Sr., John Raymond Shrum, Virgil Crockett and Jeffery S. Sallee.

             April 9

    Paula Pilley's pottery has exhibits in Lawrence and Manhattan. Lee and Bonnie VanGieson celebrate golden anniversary. Lindi Conner takes gold in discuss at Valley Center and silver in shot put. KMS boys place third at their home meet. Obituaries were Clive C.  Hockett and  Beatrice  D. DeVore.

             April 12

     Sondra and Eldon Headrick of Rago are the parents of sextuplets,  three boys and three girls. B.O.E. 331 approves merger of Ark Valley  and Chisholm Trail leagues. Linda  Langley joins Citizens Bank of  Kansas' as assistant VP'. James and  Rosaline Bohrer are wed 50 years.  Cecilia Oeding places 2nd in Kingman golf meet. Kansas newspapers  recognize Cactus Dodge, Stephen  DuCharme, Dustin SanRomani and  Pat Miller. Obituaries were for  John 'Jack' Riley, Sally Easley.  Emily Dick places 5th in state spelling bee.

             April 16

     Kingman   library   receives Gates grant of $4,585.00. Kingman airport is now Kingman Airport- Clyde Cessna Field. Sisters of  Habit return for benefit performance. KARE to hold it's own antiques road show. Pat Miller signs with Neosha Community College, he is also named to academic all state.   Deaths  were  Marjorie Lackey, Dale Oaks and Earl J. Fieser.

             April 19

     Tornado touches down in northeast Kingman County. Kelly Mason is promoted to president of Pratt First National Bank. Homeowners request stop sign at F. and Pine intersection when a young driver went through the walls of their home. No injuries to people. Dan and lola Thomas of Anthony are wed 78 years. Richard and Angela Molitor are wed 50 years. High school juniors and seniors enjoy prom activities. Obits were for Helen Alien, Dwight Stephens, Richard Gilley, Tony Goetz, Dennis W. Hall, and Wanda Voth.

              April 23

      Deputy Sheriff John Daley's patrol car is damaged in high-speed chase. The highway death of Richard 'Red' Gilley is a mystery for authorities. Lady Eagles take first in home track meet. KHS tennis doubles win quad meet. The only death listed was Tiney Dee Tyier.

              April 26

      Former Leader-Courier employee Betty Amick died. KES students give talent show. High winds blow pickup driven by Travis Stephens of Norwich off the road. Kris Lacio has record discus throw. Bodybuilder Leon Kaufman takes 3rd at 2002 Iron games held in Stillwater, Okla. Daniel Lee Johnson was only death listed.

              April 30

 A Kingman school bus and car collide; no one is injured. Larry Vierthaler and Larry England retire   from USD 332. Cunningham boys win South Central Relays. KHS girls take 1st at Chaparral sophomore meet. The death listed was James W. Ingram.

               May 3

      Kingman man shoots himself with small caliber gun.  The county courthouse gets repairs to roof. Jacque McGinnis achieves director status with Mark Kay Cosmetics, Inc. Obituaries were for Joseph B. Rohling, Juanita K. Millard and Wilma R. Trostle.

               May 7

      Former resident, Rob Boyer, runs for House seat in the new 38th District. Dominick Basten, a German student, has been attending school at Norwich and living with the Roger Merrick family. Mel and Vema Siemens celebrate their golden anniversary. KHS Eagle pole vaulters take gold at the Circle track meet. Gerald L. Panek and Kerren Marie Kuhn were the deaths listed.

           May 10

    Carol Young retires from KHS. KHS FFA boys head for nationals.  Kingman  Collingwood Grain will close. The Pretty Prairie Rodeo will be part of a filmed documentary. Obituaries: Robert Bock, Frederick W. Coleman, Pauline Pinkerton and Calvin Eck.

            May 14

    The city will erect 11-unit T-hangars at the newly remodeled airport. Tornado hits southern part of Pratt, Keith Nuefeld places third in CTL tennis tourney.

              May 17

     Polymer Group Inc. files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Dennis  McKinney files for re-election. Amanda Hubell will attend a student leadership conference in Washington D.C. Jared Wollen and Brent Parsons qualify for state golf  tournament. Obituaries were for Naomi Donley, Ernest E. Foutz, Inez E. Duvall and Phillip Domer.

              May 21

     Dallas Krehbiel is seriously  injured in a one-vehicle accident  near Dodge City. Three tie for  valedictorian  at  KHS—Jeremy Graber, Jodi Moran and Pat Miller. Andi Vaughn is Salutatorian. The Goddard PTO honors Bonnie Doran. Obituaries listed were George E, Jayne, Floyd R. Sailer, Mary Alice Bames and Ralph P. Koenigsman.

             May 24

    Melisa Hodson of Anthony is new principal at Norwich Elementary. Zenda community will celebrate 115th birthday this coming summer. Train rides delight area travelers". Area girl scouts receive awards. Kingman Eagles qualify five for state track meet. The Ark Valley and Chisholm Trail Leagues may form one league. Obituaries were for Siphia M. Kimminan, Noram C. Schlesener, Connie Sue Smith and Anges Metzen.

              May 28

     Rebecca Ewald of Germany will say goodbye to the Norman Henning family after her year as an

exchange student at KHS. Alan Goering of Medicine Lodge will run in the newly formed 116th District against Dennis McRmney.

             May 31

    Attorney Robert Wunsch is Memorial Day speaker. KHS Class of 1942 makes a $375 donation to the Statue of Liberty Memorial Fund. The class also holds its 60-year reunion. Laura Funke ties for 4"' in pole vault in the state meet while Lindi Conner placed 6th in shot put. Rebecca Tetrick is Pinto Princess and will represent all Kansas Pinto Horse Association members at every show. Joseph F. Miller, Glen Moore, Chi Hwan Gathers and Ramona Keenan were the deaths listed.

              June 4

     Kingman Kountry Store will  have grand opening. Airport work  continues on schedule. KHS alumni vote to form Senior KHS Alumni Group. Marion and Vema Oiler celebrate 50 years together. Obituaries were four Dorothy E. Johnson, Willard Cox and Eunice Hutto.

               June 7

      The  Headrick  babies  are slowly getting to go home; its four down, and two to go. Byron and June Walker will celebrate 60th anniversary. Paul L Miller and Harold Johnston were the deaths listed.

              June 11

     Klaver Construction buys sand and concrete plants in the area including Central Concrete. Highway Patrol Trooper Colton Lann is assigned to Kingman County. John Jacob's death is ruled a suicide. Seth Holder, Norwich, received Farrar Scholarship. Cunningham 7th and 8th graders once again go back to Pioneer Days. Two obituaries were for Irene Madaline Klaver and Ray Pinkerton Jr.

               June 14

      Plush family start renovations on Penalosa post office building.  The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will try to redirect the course of the Ninnescah River. Everett and Virginia Cloyd make it to 60 years of wedded bliss. Obits: John M. Duffin, John R. Jacobs, Lola Mae Collins and Kenneth W. Crow.

              June 18

      Rains slow down the wheat harvest. Shawanda Heath, KSH student, is one of four members to  represent the U.S. at the Jr. World Archery Games in Nymburk, Czach Republic. Ed and Agnes  Small, former Kingman residents are wed 60 years. A former St. Leo couple, Al and Veda Bachman of Greeley, Colo., celebrate 70 years together. Cooper Kanngiesser wins State bull riding title at KHSRA State Rodeo finals in Topeka. Will Tetrick won Rookie of the year award and took third in cutting. Charles J. Vierthaler and David A Watkins were the deaths listed.

               June 21

      The harvest is still not complete because of some wet fields.  Tyler Dixon plays in the Lions  Band at Lions State Convention.   Loren and Marie Morris celebrate   65th anniversary. Obituaries were for Bonadean Jessup, Mary L. Kerr, Robert Casner, Francis A. Youngers, Mary Ann Weber and Rosiland K. McCoy.

                      June 25

      Karen L. Crouse Alpers is killed in auto accident at intersection of K-42 and Hwy. 14. Ruth Wohler retired after 26 1/2 years with the Kingman hospital. Kingman drivers' license office is slated to close. Bernard J. Kimminau and Frances M. Anderson were the deaths listed.

              June 28

     Another traffic fatality, this time an accident on West MacArthur Rd.  Jacob Alien Curry was  killed. Dr. Emmett Child retires. Charita Bigwas is new therapist at Kingman Community Hospital. Obituaries were for St. Bruck Livingston, Karen Lee Alpers, Sue Lynne Bailey, Leon A. Weber, Sister Celestine Henning and Sister Camillus Bayer, OP.
