Kingman High School Alumni Web Site KHS Senior Alumni Reunion - May 26, 2007
Leader-Courier Photos Ninety men and women who were graduated from Kingman High School 60 or more years ago, attended the fifth annual Senior KHS Alumni Reunion May 26 in the Christian Church fellowship hall. Including the grads' escorts, there were 123 in attendance. Hosts this year were members of the Class of 1946. Norma Brand Salmans was chairman, Leonard Richardson served as master of ceremonies. Greeters were Dorothy McClure and Vera Clark, registrars were Barbara Engelhardt and Lucinda Krug, assisted by visitor Ruby Ashcraft Deaver, '48. Classes stood as they were recognized by Lucinda Beard Krug. Florence Kaufman Barber who is 95 years old, is the last known living member of her Class of 1928. She received a gift from the host class. Her brother. Ken Kaufman and Opal Fairchild Krehbiel represented the Class of 1932. These three have attended every senior reunion. Barbara Baker Engelhardt's talk "Laugh at Life'' reminded the audience of things from the past we now can laugh about. Future plans for the reunion were announced by Doris Howell. She called attention to a "diploma" at each place which was an invitation to the 2008 Senior Reunion, and requested it be saved in a conspicuous place. Individual invitations will not be mailed next year. The Class of 1947 will be host at the Christian Church on May 24, 2008, the Saturday before Memorial Day. Don Graber will be chairman. Recognition was given to Paul Handkins who conceived the idea for a senior reunion, and to Wayne and Lois Engelhardt Cerne whose father was Superintendent of Schools for every graduate present. Allan and Shirley Galatas Baker from Maryland received a gift for having traveled the farthest. Other states represented were Texas, California, Tennessee, Oklahoma and Colorado. The serving tables were centered with arrangements of red carnations and American flags. Favors were place cards with a photo of the high school on the cover and inside, a memorable poem written by Clara Goetz, '42. These and the printed programs were made by Norma Salmans' daughter, Kim Hodges of Elk Falls. The lunch was catered by Jeri's Kitchen. This was a gala celebration on the 100th anniversary of the building of Kingman County High School, alma mater of those assembled. Voices of the graduates filled the room as they rendered their school song "Banners" written by J. Beach Cragun, Class of 1903. That and patriotic songs were led by Shirley Baker. Marjorie Weddle accompanied and also played old favorite tunes as the crowd gathered and visited before the program. The emcee concluded the program with a poignant reminder of the many blessings we enjoy.
