Oct. 3 - The
Kingman United Methodist Church will celebrate
125 years. Donley Memorial Clinic has a new
Physician's Assistant, Jason Menges. Abe's Oilfield
Service softball team participates in
world meet in Dallas. They place 49th out of
176 teams. Obituaries were for Majel Calhoun,
Philomena Morris, John J. Rohlman, Lewis A.
Hovey and Donavan B, Shields.
Oct. 7 - The
National Field Trials for sporting dogs is held
at Byron Walker Wildlife area from Oct. 7-9.
Norma Dodge retires after 37 years at Kingman
Drug. A truck driver and train collide south
of Spivey, no injuries. KHS Eagles shut out
Circle High Thunderbirds, 21-0. Lady golfers
take 2nd at Medicine Lodge.
Oct. 10 - Kingman
County Commissioners meet with members of Kansas
Department of Trans-portation, the
HNTB Corp, members of
USD 331 and 332, the County public works director
and the county consulting engineer to discuss
US 54 Highway project. Tyier Garten wins steer
wrestling in northwest Kansas rodeo. Deaths
listed were Ernest J. Blasi, Olive V. Logue
and Billy G. Pogue.
Oct. 14
- KHS fall
homecoming king and queen are Andrew Strong
and Jessica Blackwill. Dr.
I.M. Grossman will celebrate 90th birthday.
Fritz and Pat Holder of Milton are wed
50 years. KMS 7th and 8th graders win their
games against Maize. Clifford "Pinky"
Busick, Jr. was the obit listed.
Oct. 17 - USD
332 will establish a cooperative agreement with
Skyline for golf. USD 331 approves new gym floor
and bleachers at KMS. A burglar or burglars
break-in at the Ranch House Restaurant. Russell
and Ethel Collins celebrate 66 years of marriage.

Oct. 21
- Police are investigating
damage to vehicles from water balloons thrown
by high school students. KHS Eagles down
Lamed. KMS 7th and 8th grades both win over
Anthony-Harper. Deaths listed were Samuel W.
Honey, Ella J. Mantey and Ethel M. Oakes.
Oct. 24
- Gregory C. Graffman is new associate attorney
at Geisert, Wunsch and Watkins Law Firm. Jordan
Schaller wins bike and certificate in KDOT poster
contest, "Put the Brakes on Fatalities
Day." Deaths listed: Harry A. Graves,
Adrian Wallace, Marcelene C. Fischer and
Homer B. Kaufman.
Oct. 28 - Children's
author, Phyllis Macy-Mills is to appear
at the Kingman library. Dean and Kathleen
Swope have 50th anniversary.
Wildcats down Fairfield
in play-offs, 41-20. John Connachan catches
36 pound grass carp in farm pond. Obituaries:
DeAnn Stephens, Michele Rene Chronister
and Juana Marie Robinson.
Oct. 31 - Kingman
High School government classes will once
again host Veterans Day programs. The KHS girls
volleyball team is 2003 CTL champs. Shayla
Holder and Megan Allender of Norwich and
Michelle Kerschen, Casey Renner
and Megan Adelhardt
of Cunningham were named to the Great Golden
Plains League All League Volleyball. Honorable
mention went to Lori Albers and Kristen Theis
of Cunningham and Audrey VanGieson
of Norwich.

Nov. 4 - Wichita
man, Marshall Voyles, is found guilty of sex
crimes, Lanny Hower, Norwich High School principal
is recognized as the Kansas Association of Secondary
School Principals, Area IV High School Principal
Honoree. Eagles win in overtime in game with
Hugoton. Mary A. McShane and Charles Ayers were
the deaths listed.
Nov. 7 - Opal
Krehbiel, the doll lady, takes all dolls donated
to NU-2-U, cleans them and even makes new clothes
for some before they are put out for sale. A
water main breaks in Riverside Park. Brenda
Sharp, Cunningham teacher,
was honored during the Kansas Association of
Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance
Convention. Sharp was named Young Professional
of the Year. Her elementary physical education
program also received recognition. Obits
were for Lucile Woodson and Marie J. Freund.
Nov. 11 - Iris
Lindt celebrates her 102'"' birthday.
Restoration of the MOPAC Depot is progressing.
Eighth grade basketball girls have won
4 and lost one. John A. Wyer and James
Norris Woodson were the deaths listed.
Nov. 14 - Warren
and Pam Finder host the Midwest Regional
Championship Sheep Dog Trials. Over 30 dogs
participated. KMS 8th graders defeat Harper,
29-8. Deaths listed were Zeima J. Harris,
Margaret E. Welch and Dorothy Jane Gardner.
Nov. 21 - The
elementary school raises over $1000 for the
Veterans Memorial project. Sixth graders win
with the most donations. They
will receive a Pizza party, courtesy of the
Kingman Lions. McDonalds is broken into. Dr.
Ned and Sue Burket celebrate 65 years of marriage.
They now reside in Wichita. KES 4th grade math
students reached the "Standard of Excellence"
level on state assessments
for 2003.

Award" from the "Confidence in Kansas
Public Education Task Force." Mesquite
Heat, a bull belonging to Lial and Nancy Dodge,
competes in World Finals in Las Vegas. Lance
Lampe takes first in bench press at Hutchinson.
competition. There were several obits for Mary
M. Millard, Joseph A. Bohrer, William Brown,
Hilda S. Kirby, Kimberly J. Snyder ,and Celesta
J. Helten.
Nov. 25 - The Kingman
Airport is to be featured in Southwest Aviation
magazine. Obituaries for this issue were Robert
L. Stillwell Jr., Max C. Farrar, Clarence F.
Hrencher and Sister Romana Henning, OP.
Nov. 28 - KHS
Principal Rick Henry received the Wichita State
University Dean's Award of
Outstanding Principals. Roger
Easley received a Technology Education Outstanding
Teacher award from the U.S. Air Force. Kingman
Co. Shriners donate $8,000 in memory of Don
Augden to the Kingman County Veterans Memorial.
Gene and Erma Dixon are wed 61 years. The only
death listed was Marie B. Sterneker.

Dec.
2 - City Commissioners are considering a 1-cent
sales tax increase. Police stop a burglary in
progress at the Ranch House. KHS volleyball
players, Lindi Conner and Abby Mertens are named
by The Hutchinson News as All Area Volleyball
players. Conner was named most valuable player.
Dec. 5 - McDonalds
is again burglarized. Fire destroys the home
of Lori Bohrer. High school FBLA members travel
to Indianapolis, Ind., for leadership conference.
Obituaries were for Caroline F. Plumber, Alma
Trummel, Wilbert Westerman and Ernest
H. Wertzberger.
Dec. 9 - Chris
Manjeot of Murdock, died in oil field accident.
Kendra Beatty is named to "Who's Who Among
' High School Students" for
2002-2003. Leonard and Dorothy Dick celebrate
55 years of wedded life. Willowdale Knights
of Columbus celebrate 75th anniversary. KHS
boys and girls win against Mulvane in season
basketball opener. The JV team also wins. Christopher
E. Manjeot and Vera Graber McGlynn were the
deaths listed.
Dec. 12 - A
suspect has been arrested in the McDonald's
break-in. The city signs an agreement for 21-mile
tie line between Kingman and Cunningham. Chris
Burket has been inducted into the Golden Key
International Honor Society at Kansas University.
USD 331 accepts resignations of
Jay and Sandra Detter, teachers at KHS.
Don Ward has also resigned effective immediately.
Obituaries were for George Neil Fisher
and Mamie Anna Hopkins.

16 - The Kingman Eagles Basketball Classic,
hosted by the Lions gets postponed by
snow storm. In opening play in the tourney,
the Eagle boys and girls win over Wellington
boys, 89-33 and girls, 52-46. Joy Livingston
was the only death listed.
Dec.
19 - A Norwich steering committee is
attempting to construct
a new grocery store in Norwich. The person
owning the property owes back taxes and
said he would deed the property to the
group if there was no cost to him. The
steering committee would like to have
the property, but don't think they should
pay his taxes. They have asked the county
commissioners to forgive the ta-xes on
the property. No action taken as of now.
Adam Mueller of North Newton will
celebrate 100th birthday.
He was the first director of Camp
Mennoscah. KHS boys and girls defeat Nickerson
in tournament play that has been post-
poned earlier due to the weather. The
only obit was for Beulah F. Tatro.

23 - Preschoolers enjoy visit from Santa's
wife at Kingman Library. The Eagle varsity,
JV, and Eagle ladies win over the Andover
Trojans. Obits were for Albert E. Drouhard
and-Zelda T. Waddell.
Dec. 26 - Raymond W. Carothers
of Anthony runs into a trailer at US 54 Hwy.
And K-14 Junction. He was transferred to a Wichita
hospital. The driver of the pickup wasn't injured.
Eighth grade girls win SKL tourney. They finish
their basketball season with a record of 13-2.
Seventh graders take 4th in the
tournament. Obituaries were for Wanda
R. Stanley and Lloyd Ellis. Hoover.
Dec. 30 - Memorial
bricks are still available for the Kingman County
Veterans Memorial. The marker at Hoover
Pond in Riverside Park identifies
the Centennial Fountain as being
donated by the Whetzel family. Dale and Phyllis
Wohlford enjoy 50th anniversary trip to Hawaii.
